Disposable plastic water bottles waste about 17 million barrels of oil per year just in the U.S. alone and yet only 12 percent of these bottles are recycled – that means a whopping 88 percent of the single use plastic water bottles unleashed on the American public end up in a landfill or as litter and they will pretty much just take up space, harm our wildlife, and be a nuisance forever since they cannot safely break down.

You can also purchase a water filter – there are a lot of options from whole house filtration systems to filters built into refrigerators and even water pitchers with a filter.
Once you add up the costs of testing, a filtration system and reusable water bottles you are still saving a significant amount of money compared to what you would spend for bottled water. It is also worth noting that you don’t know what is in your bottled water – the companies that keep encouraging you to purchase their product don’t disclose what is in the water they sell like a municipalities report or an independent test would.
